Ireland celebrates the rising of 1916 this year in it s centenary year .
100 years have now passed since Patrick Pearse stood outside the General post office on Sackville street now O Connell street in Dublin
Here he read the proclamation to the people of Dublin
Battles were fought here in Dublin in Galway and also Enniscorthy County Wexford. Casualties fell on both sides. British forces and
Irish volunteers. 16 children also perished in this struggle.
President Michael D Higgins laid a wreath at the GPO to honor those who gave up their lives for freedom.
The tricolor was raised over the GPO and the national anthem was played ( Amhran na bhFiann ) A full military parade followed with a fly past
by the Irish Aer corps. It Is estimated up to half a million spectators turned out in the capital to view this event.
