The Fuel Protest Commenced April 5th 2026
The peaceful protest was called after calls to the government were ignored to cut taxes on fuel, Farmers Hauliers and truck drivers took to blocking main cities and motorways .the main blockade was on Dublin's O Connell street They parked tractors agricultural vehicles and trucks along the main thoroughfare, They also blocked the N7 M50 N4 and rural cities . Carbon tax home heating oil and diesel petrol are heavily taxed and constantly increasing. The FFFG coalition government reap the taxes. for every one euro spent they take 60 cent in taxes. The transport industry and farming community said we have had enough and the government failed to reduce or cap these price increases. The Taoiseach Michael Martin And Tánaiste Simon Harris failed to rectify this. calling the protest a despicable attack on Irish society and Irish economy also saying the blockade was an act of national sabotage at the Whitegate refinery in Cork. The government finally agreed to meet some organisers of the protest but others were refused admittance saying the blockade and protests would be escalated. The Gardaí stated that if the blockades were not removed that those involved faced fines or possibly prison sentences . On Saturday night into Sunday 12th Gardai assisted by army vehicles removed the obstructing vehicles. The government met with organisers and offered some reduction diesel and petrol 10 cent reduction per litre. They also stated that the carbon tax increase would be deferred in 505 million package This may not be the end of the irish people showing their anger and frustration in this government . Always remember the people vote in the government but can at election time easily vote them out.If they fail to serve the people their citizens
